Jefferson Patterson Park & Museum (JPPM), an agency of the Maryland Department of Planning, hosts thousands of visitors each year to showcase the historic buildings and park grounds located on site through educational programs, guided tours and local events.  Through the help of our committed staff and volunteers, we strive to ensure that each JPPM visitor has a greater appreciation for all the history Maryland has to offer.

Main Purpose of Job

This position will plan, coordinate, and market all JPPM activities including cultural heritage events under the supervision of the Museum's Executive Director. The ideal candidate will oversee the full range of event planning activities from conceptualization to execution. This includes outreach, social media, and advertising. The position will also have some responsibilities for grant preparation and event budget management. Candidates must be able to work weekends as necessary, especially April 15th through November 1st. Work is on-site full time and schedules may vary to accommodate special event dates.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

Bachelor’s degree plus two years of experience in event planning, marketing, tourism or other closely related field is required. Candidates may substitute an additional four years of the required experience for college degree.

Experience in MS Office Suite, Publisher, and Paint Shop Pro is required.  Experience in design layout and working in a nonprofit, park or museum setting is preferred.  Excellent organizational skills and ability to foster successful internal and external relationships are a must. Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions and the ability to handle the public in potentially stressful conditions are also necessary.
