Main Purpose of Job

Provides Pastoral services, assists in the functions of the religious programs, process detainee request to practice religion. Provides Pastoral care to detainees by systematically making rounds in housing, segregation units, and medical department, notifies detainees family members for death notifications; provides Pastoral care to detainees hospitalized in local hospitals; provides monthly documentation for all necessary audit responsibilities associated with religious services and provides other duties as assigned.

POSITION DUTIES

·        Planning, developing and maintaining a program of workshop activities, study groups, administration of sacraments, hold day observances and special programs in order to accommodate inmates' spiritual needs in accordance with relevant agency directives.

·        Providing assistance and guidance by circulating in housing units, setting up visitation schedules in housing areas and responding to inmate request slips.

·        Making contact with inmates and their families in order to provide information and counseling relative to serious illness, injury or death in accordance with established agency directive.

·        Notifies inmate population of religious services and facilitates participation by posting monthly schedules on designated bulletin boards.

·        Serves as liaison of the facilities under scope of Religious Services for preparing and submitting required reports and/or applicable department information.

·        Providing management of the religious volunteers.

·        Candidate must be willing to work with other faith groups outside of their own faith.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

Education: Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.

Experience: Two (2) years of ministerial experience following ordination.

Chaplains must possess current endorsement from a recognized denominational authority.

NOTES:

1. Additional experience in spiritual counseling or other college/university may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

2. Additional graduate level education at an accredited college or university may be substituted at the rate of 30 semester credit hours on a year-for-year basis for the required general experience.

3. Credit may be given for relevant part-time, temporary or volunteer experience if candidate list the number of hours workers per week.

For education obtained outside the U.S., candidates are required to provide proof of the equivalent of American education as determined by a foreign credential evaluation services. All information used to determine your qualifications must be received prior to the closing date.

SELECTIVE QUALIFICATIONS

 

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The ideal candidate will possess a Bachelor's Degree in the disciplines of theology, religious studies or sacred studies from an accredited institute, seminary or equivalent.

One (1) year of experience specifically counseling others or completion of one course in Clinical Pastoral education.

At least one (1) year of ministerial experience will have been working in a correctional institution.

Candidate is a practicing member of the Islamic Chaplain and/or candidate has extensive knowledge of the tenets of the Islamic Chaplain.
