Main Purpose of Job

The Contractual Dentist II is the full performance level of work providing dental services to clients participating in a public health program or to physically disabled, mentally ill or developmentally disabled patients or clients at residential treatment facilities or to inmates of correctional facilities.  Employees in this classification may have supervisory responsibility for dental health care support staff and may provide advice and guidance to less experienced dentists.  This position will provide clinical dental services to children and low-income adults.  The preferred individual should have the desire to work with children as well as previous experience working with children.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

Education:    Determined by the State Board of Dental Examiners under the licensing requirements for Dentists.

Experience:  Two years of experience in the practice of dentistry.

NOTE:

A Master’s degree in Public Health may be substituted for one year of the required experience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The preferred candidate should have the desire to work with children as well as previous experience working with children.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

1.  Candidates for positions in this classification must possess a current license as a Dentist from the State Board of Dental Examiners, 4201 Patterson Avenue, Baltimore, Maryland 21215-2299.

2.  Candidates for positions in this classification must possess or be eligible to obtain controlled substances registration certificates as issued by the Federal government and the State of Maryland in order to prescribe narcotic medication.

3.  Persons appointed to positions in this classification may be required to successfully complete and maintain current certification of cardiopulmonary resuscitation training.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

1.  Applicants may be given a medical examination prior to appointment to determine their ability to perform the work of the position.

2.  Employees in this classification are subject to substance abuse testing in accordance with Code of Maryland Regulations 06.01.09, Testing for Illegal Use of Drugs.
