Main Purpose of Job

The MD DNR Office of Fair Practices is currently accepting applications for a Maryland Department of Natural Resources (MD DNR) 504/Americans with Disabilities Act ADA Transition Plan Coordinator. The Coordinator will engage within technical surveyor, assessor, evaluative, natural resource planning, conceptual, environmental design, administrative, and final report writing activities. These activities are to be carried out within the context of MD DNR agency self-evaluation and professional assessment of the accessibility of MD DNR agency buildings, Parks, wildlife and heritage areas, marinas, NRMA's, and public waterways, with respect to the 504/ADA needs of people with disabilities in accessing recreational fishing, boating, camping, trail, hunting, facilities, services, and programs. The MD DNR 504/ADA Transition Plan Coordinator will work MDNR personnel and the MD DNR Disabilities Council to update the MD DNR Transition Plan, as a continual "Living Document", for completion and submission to the MD Department of Disabilities-Access MD Program and to other federal civil rights offices of agencies providing MD DNR with federal assistance, by December 31, 2011. The Coordinator should possess technical expertise and relevant work experience or a degree in urban or regional planning, biological sciences, engineering, physical geography, environmental science, natural resource planning, recreational therapy, or a relevant discipline. In addition, it is critical that the incumbent also possess at least a working knowledge of the public access provisions of the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990, as amended, Section 504 of the Rehabilitative act of 1973, the U.S. Access Board Guidelines, and BOCA.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

Education: Possession of a Bachelor's Degreefrom an accredited college or university in an environmental science or natural resources planning, management or development.

Experience: None.

NOTE: Experience in ADA (American Disabilities Act) assessments of facilities and public lands can be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required education.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Working knowledge of section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, American Disabilities Act, and the U.S. Access Board Guidelines is preferred but not required.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties may be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.
