Main Purpose of Job

To support the Workforce Technology Center's (WTC) data communication system by responding to service desk requests, interpreting users responses, diagnosing the situation and resolving the issue. Integrate and maintain software and hardware for local area computer networks to include operating systems and network communication software. Produce and maintain current network documentations. Maintain computer inventory. Administer, monitor and maintain two local area networks encompassing data communications, servers, and computers.

POSITION DUTIES

Administers servers, storage devices, and peripherals; installs and configures hardware and associated software with appropriate user privileges; creates user accounts assigning domain, application and local privileges and sets correct access to applications; maintains network resources according to the required standards; installs operating systems, application software, and network communications software; configures network software to appropriate specification and user need; installs and configures application software and customizes as required to specifications; generates and updates documentation as requested or instructed; documents changes to network infrastructure or configuration.

MINIMUM EDUCATION OR GENERAL REQUIREMENTS

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Information Technology, Management Information Systems, or other information technology-related field to include course work in local or wide area computer networks from an accredited college or university.  

Experience: Two year(s) of experience planning, installing and maintaining devices; or evaluating, implementing and maintaining computer hardware and software is preferred.

NOTE: Thirty credit hours in Computer Information Technology, Management Information Systems, or other information technology-related field to include course work in local or wide area computer networks from an accredited college or university may be substituted for the required education.

SELECTIVE QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge of Enterprise environment and SAN terminal services; knowledge in the areas of information system architecture, system security practices, and industry standards; knowledge in Exchange Server, TCP/IP, Internet Information Server, and Microsoft Server Operating systems; knowledge of Windows XP, 7 (32 and 64 bit), 8, Workstation; knowledge of an Ethernet network, Cisco routers and switches, Windows 2003 and 2008 servers; skill in systems management, product integration, and managing the life cycle of technology products.

Ability to support and maintain a multi-server LAN technology; ability to interact and support the technology needs of users; ability to ensure network connectivity and functionality during core business hours; ability to write clear and concise instructions, updates and documentation; ability to maintain logs and records on system operations; ability to communicate effectively and to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a variety of customers to include network users, vendor representatives and engineers
