LOCATION OF POSITION
Main Purpose of Job
The Department of Natural Resources, Chesapeake and Coastal Service, is seeking a current graduate student, or a recent college graduate to serve as the Department's Climate Resiliency Planning and Policy Fellow for a 10-month time period, between approximately December, 2014- September, 2015.
The selected candidate will assist the Chesapeake and Coastal Service with its ongoing climate change adaptation planning and policy efforts by providing research, planning, policy and technical support. The position requires a highly motivated, organized individual with a background or interest in the growing field of climate change and sea level rise adaptation and/or resiliency planning. The position will aid in the implementation of and development of various research, planning, policy and programmatic efforts aimed at reducing Maryland's vulnerability to the impacts of climate change.
Tasks will include the provision of planning, and technical support to the Adaptation and Response Working Group of the Maryland Commission on Climate Change; the Maryland Coast Smart Council; the Department of Natural Resource's Climate Change Matrix Team; as well as a number of other state-level climate change related planning bodies or project initiatives. In this capacity, the Fellow will compile and collect basic climate change and sea level rise data and information; conduct general background research on select topics; compile scientific and technical reference materials; aid in the preparation of written planning and programmatic documents; and, engage in the development and dissemination of climate change communication and outreach materials and products.
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Education: Possession of a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in an environmental science or natural resources planning, management, policy or a current graduate student.
Experience: None.
