Main Purpose of Job

The Department of Natural Resources, Forest Service, is currently accepting applications for seasonal contractual Natural Resources Technician I positions located in the Potomac/Garrett State Forest (2) and Chesapeake and Pocomoke Forests (2). These positions will support efforts to control invasive plants in areas with high biodiversity, and will be involved in identifying invasive plants, marking areas for treatment, and carrying out mechanical and chemical control. Applicant must be willing to work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions. Employee may drive a State vehicle or, depending on vehicle availability, may receive mileage reimbursement for use of a personal vehicle.

MINIMUM EDUCATION OR GENERAL REQUIREMENTS

Education:  Completion of thirty credit hours from an accredited college or university, 9 of which are in biology, biochemistry, environmental science, forest technology, arboriculture, aquaculture, natural science, natural resources management, botany, marine biology, marine ecology, physical oceanography, ichthyology, fisheries management, wildlife management, zoology, or a natural resources management related field of study.

Experience: None. 

Notes: 

1. Additional experience performing technical biological work in the field of forestry, arboriculture, wildlife, aquaculture, natural resources management, or fisheries may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required education.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Persons appointed to positions in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of an automobile or other motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess the appropriate operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.
