Introduction

This is a Special Appointment position at the Maryland Police and Correctional Training Commissions. The incumbent will work at the pleasure of the appointing authority.

Main Purpose of Job

The incumbent instructs a designed curriculum within the Police Entrance Level Training Academy in order to ensure compliance with standards established by the Maryland Police and Correctional Training Commissions (MPCTC). The incumbent serves as a mentor and coach to provide direction and guidance to recruits to resolve any academic or personal issues they may encounter.

POSITION DUTIES

Instructs/facilitates designed curriculum within the program in order to ensure compliance with standards established by the MPCTC.

Conducts on-going research in assigned topic area(s) to facilitate the design, development and delivery of lesson plans, student workbooks, handouts and study guides.

Develops and designs course related assessment tools to include quizzes, examinations, performance evaluations and skill assessments.

Supervises entry level students on a daily basis and serves as a mentor and coach to resolve any personal or academic issues the recruits may encounter.  

Performs audits of MPCTC approved police entry level training programs as a member of the MPCTC Certification Unit Audit team.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

Education: A Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university.

Experience: Three years experience in administrative or professional work.

Notes:

1. Candidates may substitute additional experience in administrative staff or professional work on a year-for-year basis for the required education.

2. Candidates may substitute additional graduate level education at an accredited college or university at the rate of 30 semester credit hours for each year of the required experience.

SELECTIVE QUALIFICATIONS

A minimum of two years of experience as a police officer.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Two years of experience as a trainer/instructor of Police Officers developing and delivering training. Applicants must be detailed in describing the nature of their training/instructional work experience.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.
