Introduction

This is a Special Appointment position at the Maryland Police and Correctional Training Commissions. The incumbent will work at the pleasure of the appointing authority.

This position is limited to permanent and contractual State of Maryland Employees only.

Main Purpose of Job

This position performs general maintenance tasks such as simple construction, rendering preventative maintenance, making minor repairs or improvements to the building, fixtures, mechanical equipment, grounds and roadways. Grounds maintenance may include grass cutting, trimming, and snow removal. Employees may be required to work in areas of extreme heat or cold and may be required to lift heavy objects such as furniture or equipment.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

Education: Completion of the eighth grade.

Experience: Three years of experience in any combination of the maintenance trades provided that at least two years of such experience shall have been primarily with the trades of electricity, plumbing, steamfittings, refrigeration or air-conditioning.

Notes:

1. Applicants may substitute additional experience in any of the maintenance trades on a year-for-year basis for up to three years of the required education.

2. A degree from an accredited vocational or technical high school with a major in Building Maintenance or a related field may be substituted for the required experience.

3. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in utilities repair classifications or construction and engineering specialty codes in any combination of maintenance trades, on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

This position is limited to permanent and contractual State of Maryland Employees only.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.
