Introduction

This is a Special Appointment position at the Maryland Police and Correctional Training Commissions. The incumbent will work at the pleasure of the appointing authority.  

This position is limited to permanent and contractual State of Maryland Employees only.

Main Purpose of Job

This position provides management of the maintenance unit, including supervision, training, work assignment/prioritization and review of maintenance tasks performed by various levels of maintenance employees. The incumbent performs general maintenance repairs and services within the facility. 

POSITION DUTIES

Supervises subordinate staff which includes identifying work projects and repairs needed, assigning/prioritizing daily work orders, and reviews and inspects work completed to meet standards. Performs routine performance evaluations of staff.

Supervises and manages preventive maintenance program. Maintains equipment repairs and system repair schedules/records.

Completes general repairs, construction projects and various maintenance repair requests. Adjusts, maintains and makes minor repairs to HVAC equipment and other modern electronic control devices on building automation systems. Troubleshoots and diagnose equipment repairs.

Prepare requests for purchase, rental or contractual services. Contact vendors to request cost estimates for parts and/or services. Compares cost of completed jobs with original cost estimates and reviews work performed for approval of invoices.

Inspects shop and work areas for adherence to safety, sanitary, and security regulations. Provides direction for corrective action to ensure all work areas are maintained to meet safety standards.

Completes annual reports for Critical Maintenance Projects, Asbestos Safety, Hazardous Materials/MOSH and other related facility maintenance reports. Complete annual in-service training for certifications as required. Contributes to preparation of project justifications and scope of work for construction/renovation projects.

Responds to emergencies while fulfilling the rotational on-call schedule.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

Education: Completion of eighth grade.

Experience: Four years’ experience in the building maintenance trades including three years of responsibility for assigning, reviewing and approving the work of other building maintenance workers.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.
