Main Purpose of Job

This position provides consultation, direction, evaluation, and leadership to the Child Welfare and Adult Services Programs. The position will supervise unit supervisors who are responsible for Family Preservation, Child Protective Services, Foster Care, Adoption, and Services to Adults and Families.

POSITION DUTIES

Direct and coordinate all activities of the Child and Adult Services Programs. 

This includes:

  • Establishing overall policies and procedures for the various programs;
  • Establishing programs goals, standards and controls to meet program objectives;
  • Developing short and long range plans for program operations and resources;
  • Determining organizational structure and staffing needs of the program(s);
  • Planning, coordinating, supervising and evaluating the work of subordinate supervisors;
  • Representing the agency in a liaison capacity with managers and officials of other agencies concerning program activities.
  • The nature of this position may require working evening and weekend hours.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

Education:  Possession of a Master's Degree in Social Work from an accredited college or university approved by the Maryland Board of Social Work Examiners.

Experience:  Seven years of professional experience in a social work capacity in a public or private agency or institution.  Four years of this experience must have been in Child Welfare and three years of experience must have been in an administrative or supervisory capacity.

LIMITATIONS ON SELECTION

Limited to current Department of Human Resources employees only.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

1.  Candidates are required to be licensed, or eligible to be licensed, as an LCSW-C by the Maryland State Board of Social Work Examiners.

2.  Employees in this classification may be assigned duties that require the operation of a motor vehicle.  Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a valid motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Employees are required to meet mandatory standards for continuing education as determined by the Department of Human Resources.  Employees who fail to obtain the required continuing education credits shall be subject to disciplinary action including demotion, suspension and dismissal.

If you are in State service and are a promotional candidate, your salary will be determined in accordance with the State of Maryland Salary Guidelines.
