Washington County Health Department, Hagerstown, MD

Main Purpose of Job

The main purpose of this position is to direct the activities of the Environmental Health Division, located in a medium sized county with a population of approximately 130,000 people.  In doing so, this position will administer all of the Environmental Health programs delegated to the Department by the Maryland Departments of Health and Mental Hygiene and the Environment by regulation, directive and policy.   

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

A bachelor’s degree, preferably in a biological, physical, environmental science or chemistry, and six years of experience involving inspections and investigations in the field of environmental health or closely related environmental health experience, including two years in a supervisory capacity.  A master’s degree in Public Health or Environmental Health Science can substitute for one-year non-supervisory experience.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Candidates for positions in this classification must possess and maintain a current license as a Registered Environmental Health Specialist from the Maryland Board of Environmental Health Specialists.
