Main Purpose of Job
The Central Collection Unit is recruiting for two (2) Collection Agent I positions that will collect all delinquent accounts referred from various MD state government agencies in the quickest, efficient, and most cost effective manner while employing the highest professional standards. They will be responsible for collection of debts referred to CCU from various agencies. The Collection Agent achieves this task by attempting to contact the debtor by phone, generating notices or e-mail where available. The Collection Agent also utilizes automated in-house tools (ESA, MVA records, Property Records, Credit Reports) to determine if assets are available to successfully collect an outstanding debt. When an agent determines that a debt is uncollectible, the agent will refer that account to the Abatement Committee for abatement consideration. These positions that will serve at the pleasure of the appointing authority.
MINIMUM EDUCATION OR GENERAL REQUIREMENTS
Education: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four year college or university.
Experience: None
Note: Candidates may substitute additional experience in financial or credit investigation, claims investigation, debt collection, or work requiring investigation and the preparation of reports on a year-for-year basis for the required education.
LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS
Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Candidates are required to undergo a criminal background check as part of the selection process due to the financial nature of the job.
