Main Purpose of Job

To coordinate Agency quality assurance and Policy functions as mandated by public law and Federal regulations to ensure that Social Security quality standards are met, and that Social Security and Supplemental Security Income disability determinations are made accurately and promptly for the citizens of Maryland. To evaluate and monitor quality issues and policy changes in all aspects of Social Security and Supplemental Security Income disability claims processing.

POSITION DUTIES

Determines the sufficiency of electronic and/or paper medical and vocational documentation, for each case reviewed by the federal component.  Recommends which agency problem areas or trends warrant further investigation or evaluation through special studies.  Determine the appropriate methods of conducting the special studies to improve internal quality.  Recommends which deficiencies cited on cases returned from the federal components should be submitted for rebuttal.  Make decisions concerning the intent of new or changes in policies that affect the DDS and how to implement them.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION: Possession of a Bachelor's Degree is required.  A Master's Degree or equivalent 36-post baccalaureate credit hours is preferred.

 

EXPERIENCE: Five years of professional experience in the adjudication of Social Security Disability Income and Supplemental Security Insurance disability claims. A Master’s Degree may be substituted for two of the required five years of experience.

SELECTIVE QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge to exercise sound judgment and initiative; ability to review all federal returns and prepare appropriate claims for rebuttals; ability to coordinate and conduct quality meetings, which include all DQB data and internal QA reviews to ensure Federal goals met as well as conduct and provide feedback on all studies identified to improve internal quality; ability to handle special assignments for the agency or SSA components in response to agency needs and coordinate training with the Training Officer on issues identified on special studies and DQB and agency trends; ability to conduct trend analyses and provide feedback;  ability to interpret, write and communicate all SSA policies affecting the DDS staff.
