Main Purpose of Job

This is a professional position responsible for conducting face-to-face evidentiary hearings for individuals appealing the decision related to eligibility or termination of Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) or Supplemental Security Income (SSI) Disability benefits.

POSITION DUTIES

Conducts hearings of claims in accordance with the due process standards as promulgated by the Social Security Administration; researches complex legal, medical and vocational issues; resolves conflicting evidence and testimony; provides advisory information to claimant and representative on appeals, additional evidence and rights and assists in processing special workloads.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION: Possession of a Bachelor’s Degree is required.  A Master’s Degree and/or Course work in Management, Supervision of Administration is preferred.
 
EXPERIENCE: A total of two years of professional work experience in disability determination services as a Vocational Rehabilitation Technical Specialist in the adjudication or processing of Social Security Disability claims.

SELECTIVE QUALIFICATIONS

In-depth knowledge Social Security laws and regulations; skill in communicating both orally and in writing; ability to work independently and produce a high volume of decisions; ability to analyze data to reach decisions meeting evidentiary requirements; ability to organize workload and exercise initiative and sound judgment and ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
