Main Purpose of Job
This position will provide strategic guidance and manage all communications and media relations to ensure external messaging is consistent with the Maryland Health Benefit Exchange's mission and goals; will manage and facilitate internal communications on behalf of the Director, Deputy Director, and other agency senior staff; will work with the Administration and sister agencies to craft communications policy and determine appropriate proactive and reactive public messaging and events.
*This classification is in Management Services and serves at the pleasure of the Appointing Authority *
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Journalism, Public Relations, Communications or similar field. Master's degree preferred. At least three years of professional experience in public relations, communications, or journalism/marketing work. Experience in the healthcare field or with health insurance preferred.
DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Extensive experience in developing strategic communications programs; strong analytical, writing and negotiation skills; ability to work well with a team and within a demanding, often public environment; ability to work on tight deadlines; credible presence and the ability to gain trust and confidence from the general public, Board and members of the senior team; demonstrated maturity and capacity to navigate a complex structure and respond to shifting and fluid priorities.
