Introduction
The Building & Grounds Worker is expected to employ reasonable judgement when working around motorized equipment and open excavations to maintain the safety of personnel, the public, and state assets.

LOCATION OF POSITION
Garrison Forest Veterans Cemetery - Baltimore County
Main Purpose of Job
To assist in all tasks associated with the interment of veterans and their dependents and the maintenance of cemetery grounds, buildings, and equipment.
POSITION DUTIES
Assists in the excavation of gravesites. In the absence of the Motor Equipment Operator, may excavate graves using a tractor/loader/backhoe. Assists in lifting and placing caskets into graves. Using lowering device, assists in lowering caskets into interment receptacles. Set up tent including lowering device, grass greens, etc for graveside services.
Assists in opening/closing of gravesites using air compressor, jackhammers, tampers, and other pneumatic equipment. Dresses gravesite after closing by fine grading or raking, and places floral tributes on site, seeds, sod or hydroseed burial sites after closing.
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Education: None.
Experience: None.
LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS
Employees appointed to positions in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Employees in this classification may be subject to call-in 24 hours a day and, therefore, may be required to provide the employing agency with a telephone number where they can be reached.
BARGAINING UNIT STATUS
The incumbent in this position is a member of a covered bargaining unit and will be required to pay a bi-weekly service fee to the exclusive representative of the bargaining unit.
