POSITION DUTIES

The Tax Forms & Corporation Adjustment Section is seeking a full-time Financial Compliance Auditor to analyze and review corporation amended returns to correct taxpayer financial data and tax calculations with supporting calculations and/or work papers; and to review business tax credit certifications. This position reports directly to the manager of the Corporation Adjustments and Complex Accounts Unit.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

Education: A bachelor's degree in Accounting from an accredited college or university or a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with 30 credit hours in Accounting and related courses, including or supplemented by 3 credit hours in auditing.

Level I

Experience: One year of experience performing financial and compliance audits of a State agency, grantee, business or other entity.

Level II

Experience: Two years of experience performing financial and compliance audits of a State agency, grantee, business or other entity.

NOTES:

  1. Applicants who had met the requirements for admission to the CPA examination prior to July 1, 1974 will be considered to have met the educational requirement referenced above.
  2. Possession of a certificate as a Certified Public Accountant or Certified Internal Auditor or a master's degree in accounting from an accredited college or university may be substituted for one year of the required experience.
  3. Applicants may substitute one year of professional accounting experience for the required experience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Proficiency in usage of Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint

  • Experience with or knowledge of federal and State income tax laws and forms
  • Willing and able to work in a high-volume production environment with tight deadlines

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties may be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.

EXAMINATION PROCESS

Qualifying applicants are subject to an oral interview.  Prior to appointment, the employee must successfully undergo a comprehensive background investigation including a review of criminal, MVA and tax records; and determination of legal authorization to work in the United States or under the United States Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986.  Upon initial appointment OR promotion to a position in the State Personnel Management System, an employee is required to serve an initial six month probationary period.  This probationary period may be extended an additional six months under certain circumstances at the discretion of the appointing authority.
