Main Purpose of Job

The position performs audits and provides consulting services to the Maryland State Board of Elections Executive Management and operating officials.  The position will also assist in the issuance of civil citations for violating election laws and monitor compliance.  Performs special investigations and projects as directed.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

Education: A bachelor's degree in Accounting from an accredited college or university or a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with 30 credit hours in Accounting and related courses, including or supplemented by 3 credit hours in auditing.  (You must show the required auditing credits on your application or on a copy of your transcript to receive credit.)

Experience: One year of experience performing financial and compliance audits of a State agency, grantee, business or other entity.

Notes:

1. Applicants who had met the requirements for admission to the CPA examination prior to July 1, 1974 will be considered to have met the educational requirement referenced above.

2. Possession of a certificate as a Certified Public Accountant or Certified Internal Auditor or a master's degree in accounting from an accredited college or university may be substituted for one year of the required experience.

3. Applicants may substitute one year of professional accounting experience for the required experience.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties may be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.

EXAMINATION PROCESS

The examination will consist of a rating of your education, training, and experience as presented on your application and as they relate to the requirements of the position.  You will be required to complete a supplemental questionnaire.  Therefore, it is important that you provide complete and accurate information on your application.

BARGAINING UNIT STATUS

The incumbent in this position may be required to pay a bi-weekly service fee to the exclusive representative of the bargaining unit.
