POSITION DUTIES

The incumbent of this position is responsible for directing and coordinating the activities of the Operating Systems and Storage Management Groups of the Technical Services section of the Annapolis Data Center. The primary responsibilities are the administration, installation and maintenance of mainframe computer software. This includes the Operating System for the ADC mainframe and supporting software that provides mainframe access to approximately 15,000 customers of the ADC and insures them to have efficient and consistent utilization of the Annapolis Data Center Mainframe. Additionally, this position is responsible for the installation and administration of Direct Access Storage Devices (DASD), Virtual Optical DASD and the tape subsystems that serve as a repository for the customer's data. This position is also responsible for the development of the Disaster Recovery Plan for the ADC operating system and ensuring its recoverability by keeping the DR plan up-to-date and ensuring that all backups are run successfully on a daily basis and stored at the offsite storage facility.

Please Note: This position is occasionally required to provide on-call support weekdays prior to 7:30 a.m. and/or after 5:00 p.m., weekends, and holidays.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

Education: Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Information Technology, Computer Science, Management Information Systems, or other information technology related field. 

Experience: Three years of experience administering, installing and maintaining large mainframe computer software; and one year of supervisory or management experience.

NOTES:  Candidates may substitute a high school diploma and 4 years of additional work experience maintaining MVS mainframe and computer software for the required education

SELECTIVE QUALIFICATIONS

Two additional years of experience installing and maintaining a z/OS operating system and associated components using SMP/E, such as, JES 2, ISPF, SDSF, TSO, HSM, etc.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience installing and maintaining independent software vendor (ISV) system products as required on the z/OS mainframe
  • General knowledge of installing hardware components on z/OS mainframe, such as, DASD storage systems, Tape Libraries, etc
  • Management and/or supervisory experience in an Information Technology environment
