Main Purpose of Job

The Department of Information Technology (DoIT) is recruiting for a Computer Network Specialist Manager that will be responsible for the management and operation of all aspects of the Departments high speed, fiber optic data network, (networkMaryland™). The Departments fiber optic network supports all state agencies by providing internet access (ISP), access to the states intranet (SWGI) and layer 2 data transport in support of agency operations and applications. networkMaryland™ also provides critical backhaul in support of the states 700 Mhz public safety radio network. network Maryland™ also provides dark fiber to counties in support of local government and Boards of Education. This is a management service position that will serve at the pleasure of the appointing authority.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related discipline with an IT focus.

Experience: Minimum of five (5) years of enterprise telecommunication experience with at least three years leading and managing people.

Three (3) years experience attracting, selecting and developing a technical team and be able to manage multiple vendors in a primarily outsourced telecom environment.

Three (3) years experience in developing and managing to operational expense budgets.

Candidate should possess a strong technical consulting/customer service background, as well as excellent oral, written, and presentation skills.

Candidate must have the ability to handle operational issues effectively, understanding escalation, communication and crisis management.
