Introduction

This is a position specific recruitment for the Department of Assessments and Taxation.  This recruitment will be used to fill current and future vacancies for this position/function only.  The resulting eligible list will be maintained for one year.  Persons interested in future vacancies within this classification must re-apply.

Main Purpose of Job

This is a computer technical support position that troubleshoots and resolves both desktop and local area network information technology issues. The individual works within a Novell, Microsoft and Google Apps for Government environment to provide first and second tier support for end users to function effectively and efficiently. Duties also include monitoring and documenting network activities, resolving hardware and software issues, monitoring network security and testing hardware/software. The individual also configures personal computers, printers, and various peripherals in accordance with established procedures and guidelines. This individual will be expected to perform offsite and after hours technical support, when needed.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

Education: Bachelor's degree in computer information technology, management information systems, or other information technology related field, to include course work in local or wide area computer networks, from an accredited college or university.

Experience: One year of experience planning, integrating and maintaining software and hardware for local or wide area computer networks.

Notes:

1. Candidates may substitute completion of high school or high school equivalency certificate and eighteen months of experience converting data from project specifications by preparing program code using generally accepted computer programming languages or other developmental tools; planning, installing and maintaining data communications network lines and devices; or evaluating, implementing and maintaining computer hardware and software for the required education.

2. Candidates may substitute completion of high school or high school equivalency certificate and fifteen credit hours from an accredited college or university in systems analysis and applications programming using generally accepted computer programming languages or other developmental tools for the required education.

3. Candidates may substitute completion of high school or high school equivalency certificate and completion of a certification program in Network Administration, such as Certified Novell Administrator (CNA), Microsoft Certified Product Specialist NT 4.0 Administrator or equivalent certification program for the required education.

4. Candidates may substitute experience in one of the following areas on a year-for-year basis for a high school education: operating computer systems, scheduling, controlling input and output or maintaining backups or data storage, processing data on computer systems, evaluating, implementing and maintaining computer hardware and software or converting data from project specifications by developing programs using generally accepted computer programming languages or other developmental tools.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Must be willing to work in Baltimore City. Position requires travel to all 24 counties/city within the State and overnight accommodations may be needed.

Microsoft Certified Solutions Associate Windows 7 and 8 or CISCO Certified Network Associate.

Knowledge of diagnosing and correcting network/end user software and hardware problems.

Must have excellent communication and customer service skills.

Knowledge of Windows Operating System.

Knowledge of Microsoft Office Professional Suite.

Knowledge of Google Apps for Government.

Knowledge of maintaining and administration for Active Directory.

Knowledge of Microsoft Patch Management.

Knowledge of workstation and laptop imaging.

BARGAINING UNIT STATUS

The incumbent in this position is a member of a covered bargaining unit and will be required to pay a bi-weekly service fee to the exclusive representative of the bargaining unit.
