Main Purpose of Job

The purpose of this position is to install, configure, and maintain computer hardware and software statewide on the Local and Wide Area Networks (LAN/WAN) for the Department of Human Resources'(DHR) Enterprise Network of over 200 sites. This position ensures that network connectivity is successfully operating within DHR for its customers; responds and resolves work order requests; troubleshoots and/or determines the hardware and/or software requirements needed to ensure optimal network performance; installs operating systems and reconfigures software for Client Information System (CIS), Child Support Enforcement System (CSES), Client Automated Resource and Eligibility System (CARES), and other statewide programs and initiatives; configures emulation (EXTRA) software for mainframe connectivity, print drivers for printers, and other communication devices; relocates and re-images PCs to meet specific program requirements; diagnoses, traces and resolves network connectivity problems from the workstation to the server; assists the LAN/WAN unit with network projects and tasks; replaces and/or installs network cards, hard drives, and other peripheral devices that are used to connect users to the DHR production environment; and stays abreast of the latest technology. The incumbent in this position also provides complex technical support services in the diagnosis, troubleshooting, maintenance, operation, testing, installation of network and stand-alone computer equipment peripherals, mainframe/host connected peripherals, DHR approved COTS (commercial off the shelf) software, and DHR custom-built applications software; supports the Department's delivery of services by minimizing downtime and ensuring the efficient and reliable operation of computer hardware and software; processes, resolves, and coordinates the resolution of requests from DHR employees statewide for technical assistance with computer equipment and peripherals, mainframe and client/server computer applications, operating system software, off-the-shelf computer software, and network and security related issues; monitors availability and performance for all DHR network traffic statewide, which includes the 24 Local Departments of Social Services; and serves as a liaison to vendor support and an information center for inquiries regarding customer equipment or system status.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.

Experience: One year of experience responding to and resolving help desk calls from users of computers, or operating computer equipment for the purpose of data entry, word processing, spreadsheet, graphics, data base or other applications.

Notes:

1. Additional experience responding to and resolving help desk calls from users of computers, or operating computer equipment for the purpose of data entry, word processing, spreadsheet, graphics, data base or other applications may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required education.

2. Nine credit hours in personal computer applications at an accredited institution may be substituted for the required experience.

3. Completion of a certification program in computer repair, such as Microsoft A+ or an equivalent program, may be substituted for the required experience.

BARGAINING UNIT STATUS

The incumbent in this position is a member of a covered bargaining unit and will be required to pay a bi-weekly service fee to the exclusive representative of the bargaining unit.
