Main Purpose of Job

The Contractual Building Security Officer II is the full performance level of work responsible for protecting the safety and security of persons, equipment, and facilities on State grounds. The main purpose of this position is to maintain security and to enforce rules and regulations pertaining to the protection of personnel and property at a multi-faceted State complex. This must be accomplished by exercising the immediate practical judgment necessary to cope with unusual situations on an emergency basis, and by placing emphasis upon courteous explanation and personal persuasiveness. It is also a main function of the incumbent to respond to complaints received of persons threatening the security of the facility or disturbing the good order thereof. Any other duties requested by the above persons or departments must also be completed. A person in this classification performs the full range of duties with complete independence.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

Education: Ability to read and write.

Experience: Two years of experience in building security work.

NOTE:

Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in master-at-arms classifications or law enforcement specialty codes in the site security field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of an automobile. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

1. Employees in this classification are subject to call 24 hours a day and, therefore, will be required to acquire telephone service at their place of residence.

2. Employees in this classification are subject to substance abuse testing in accordance with Code of Maryland Regulations 06.01.09, Testing for Illegal Use of Drugs.
