Introduction

The Maryland Department of General Services – Maryland Capitol Police is seeking highly motivated, safety focused, customer service oriented, flexible and dependable individuals, with a clean background, to join our security officer unit.

We provide a safe environment for all visitors, employees and government leaders at our facilities and State Office centers, in Annapolis and Baltimore, by protecting lives and property as a premier security and law enforcement organization.

Main Purpose of Job

The main purpose of the position is to ensure the safety and security of persons, equipment and facilities at the Annapolis or Baltimore State Office Complexes. An employee in this classification does not have supervisory responsibilities, however, they are responsible for becoming proficient in keeping with the mission "to protect and serve". An employee in this classification is considered an "Essential Employee" and must report for duty as scheduled, during inclement weather, unless leave is granted in accordance with Administrative Leave Policy.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Employees in this classification are subject to call 24 hours a day and, therefore, will be required to acquire telephone service at their place of residence.

FURTHER INSTRUCTIONS

Join us for a realistic job preview which will cover the essential components of a Security Officer position, demonstrations, overview of physical requirements, a tour of security officer posts (inside and outside), followed by an application session. Must have a valid driver’s license. High School diploma/GED is preferred. Interviews will be conducted at a later date from among qualified applicants. Applications will remain on file for 6 months.
