Main Purpose of Job

This is the primary position for the Bureau of Investigative Services Unit (BIS) in the Office of the Inspector General (OIG). This position conducts reviews, examinations and investigations in order to objectively monitor, verify, and analyze allotment of State and federal funds disbursed through Department of Human Resources (DHR). It is a key resource for ensuring department financial integrity with regard to preventing and investigating fraud and other misconduct against DHR. By protecting DHR programs that must be free of financial and other types of abuse, the position also contributes to ensuring DHR customers achieve independence. This assists the OIG's mission to protect the integrity of the DHR and to detect, deter and reduce financial loss to the State.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

Education: Possession of a bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university.

Experience: Two years experience in administrative or professional work.

Notes:

1. Candidates may substitute additional experience in administrative staff or professional work on a year-for-year basis for the required education.

2. Candidates may substitute additional graduate level education at an accredited college or university at the rate of 30 semester credit hours for each year of the required experience.

3. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer involving staff work that included the regular independent judgment and analysis in applying and interpreting complex administrative plans, policies, rules or regulations or analysis of operational programs or procedures with recommendations for improvement on a year to year basis for the required education and experience.

SELECTIVE QUALIFICATIONS

If you are not using the Note Lines (substitutions ) to meet the minimum education and experience, you must possess the below Selective Qualification:

One year of the required experience must have been in the one or more of the following areas: as a Family Investment Specialist, Fraud Investigator, Child Protective Service Worker, Child Support Specialist, Absent Parent Locator and/or locating individuals for the purpose of serving warrants and subpoenas.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Experience in Law Enforcement and/or as a Correctional Officer.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.
