LOCATION OF POSITION

Annapolis, MD (Anne Arundel County)

Main Purpose of Job

The Department of Natural Resources (DNR), Resource Assessment, Monitoring and Non-Tidal Assessment Division is currently accepting applications for multiple (up to four) seasonal Natural Resources Technician II positions. The selected candidates will assist with sampling, analysis, and reporting of fish, herpetofauna, freshwater mussel, benthic macroinvertebrate, and physical habitat data collected from streams as part of the Maryland Biological Stream Survey. These positions will also specifically support dam removal, mussel relocation, or volunteer stream health monitoring projects; duties will include benthic sample collection and processing and field work, data entry and management.

Duration of the positions may vary by project, but will not exceed 40 weeks.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

Education: Possession of or working toward a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in biology, biochemistry, environmental science, aquaculture, natural science, natural resources management, botany, marine science, physical oceanography, ichthyology, fisheries management, wildlife management, zoology, or a natural resources management related field of study.  

Experience: None.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Experience in stream assessment techniques, benthic macroinvertebrate identification, or freshwater mussel surveying preferred but not required. 

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Persons appointed to positions in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of an automobile or other motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess the appropriate operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

The candidate must provide his or her own transportation to meet a field crew prior to traveling to sites.

This position frequently involves strenuous activity.  

Applicants must be willing to work long hours in potentially harsh conditions.  

The selected individual is likely to encounter hot weather, biting insects, long hikes, briars, snakes, and may have to carry up to a 30 pound back-pack.
