Matapeake State Park- Stevensville, MD (Queen Anne's County)

Main Purpose of Job

The Maryland Department of Natural Resources (DNR), Fisheries Service is accepting applications to fill one (1) seasonal/contractual Natural Resource Technician I position at Matapeake State Park in Stevensville, Maryland. This position will not exceed ten months. The incumbent will support restoration projects for American and hickory shad.  The selected candidate will participate in a restoration effort conducted by Maryland DNR's Hatcheries Division Anadromous Restoration project. Primary duties will be to support biologists in all aspects of the restoration project.

Job responsibilities will include:

  • Assisting biologists in electro-fishing and seine surveys
  • Processing and aging shad scales
  • Mounting and interpretation of shad otoliths
  • Data entry
  • Equipment and vehicle maintenance

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

Education: Completion of sixty credit hours from an accredited college or university, 18 of which are in biology, biochemistry, environmental science, forest technology, arboriculture, aquaculture, natural science, natural resources management, botany, marine biology, marine ecology, physical oceanography, ichthyology, fisheries management, wildlife management, zoology, or a natural resources management related field of study.

Experience: None.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Prior fisheries experience is preferred but not required.
