Main Purpose of Job

This position, serving as the Director, Maternal and Child Health Epidemiology, is a senior administrator of the Office of Surveillance and Quality Initiatives (OSQI), which oversees surveillance activities, data collection, data analysis, and quality improvement initiatives within the Maternal and Child Health Bureau (MCHB). The Director, Maternal and Child Health Epidemiology manages maternal and child health (MCH) surveillance and epidemiologic activities within OSQI, and has full supervisory responsibility for the epidemiology and data management staff. This position directs the development of population-based epidemiological analysis and investigation of MCH-related data in order to make data-driven recommendations for health programs and policies which affect the health of women, infants and children. The Director, Maternal and Child Health Epidemiology works with the Director, OSQI on fiscal and budgetary management issues. The position also advises and guides other professional staff in undertaking various research and evaluation studies. Expertise in epidemiology, public health, maternal and child health, and management is required.

MINIMUM EDUCATION OR GENERAL REQUIREMENTS

Requires a master's degree and 6 years of experience at the managerial level in a public health setting, including experience in the oversight and management of personnel and financial resources, and 3 years of experience involving the analysis of maternal and child health data using SAS, SPSS and mapping software to produce reports and presentations. 

The successful applicant should possess administrative and epidemiological experience in the field of maternal and child health.  The position serves as the Director of Epidemiology for the Office of Surveillance and Quality Initiatives and provides oversight and direct supervision to the epidemiologist and database manager within the Office.
