Madonna Ranger Station- Jarrettsville,MD (Harford County)

The Department of Natural Resources, Forest Service, Jarrettsville, Maryland location is currently accepting applications for a seasonal Conservation Associate I. The position will be part of the Firewise Maryland program and assist with wildfire outreach, education, and mitigation in a multi-county area. Responsibilities will include public wildfire mitigation outreach, staffing of educational booths at public events, Smokey Bear fire prevention programs, targeted Wildland-Urban Interface community outreach and risk assessment, coordination and implementation of hazard fuel reduction projects, brush chipper operation, and other duties as assigned.

Evening and weekend work will be required.

Education: Possession of an Associate Degree or sixty semester hours from an accredited college or university including at least eighteen semester hours in physical or biological science, engineering, or natural resources related course work.

OR

Education: High School Diploma or equivalent.

Experience: Two (2) years of full-time subprofessional technical experience in the natural resources fields or engineering.

OR

Experience: One (1) year as a Conservation Aide IV in the Maryland State Service.

Notes: 

1. Completion of a State of Maryland sponsored Water Sewer Operators training course may be substituted for one year of the required experience.

2. Applicants may substitute thirty semester hours of which nine hours must be in physical or biological science, engineering or natural resources related course work for one year of the required experience.

3. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in Environmental Engineering and Natural Resources Management classifications or Environmental Engineering and Natural Resources Management specialty codes in the Engineering or Natural Resources field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience and education. 

A Class A or B CDL Driver's License is preferred but not required.

1. Employees in this classification may be assigned duties that require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties may be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.

2. The nature of some positions in this class may require that the employee possess a valid Class A Maryland driver’s license. Therefore, possession of such a license may be required prior to appointment.
