POSITION DUTIES

The Office of the Attorney General is seeking applicants for an Investigative Auditor position in its Medicaid Fraud Control Unit (“MFCU”).  This position will involve working with Assistant Attorneys General and staff of the MFCU conducting confidential investigations of fraud by health care providers receiving Medicaid funds.  Duties include evaluating allegations of fraud and determining fraud potential; preparing drafts of investigative document requests; analyzing claims data for patterns of fraud; analyzing financial records; interviewing witnesses, Medicaid recipients, and state agents to develop evidence needed to evaluate and uncover fraudulent activities; preparing memorandums to document findings; and testifying in grand jury and court proceedings.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

The ideal candidate will have a bachelor’s degree in accounting from an accredited four-year college or university and three years criminal or fraud investigative auditing experience.  Applicants may substitute graduate education for the required general experience at the rate of one year of education to one year of experience, for up to two years of the required general experience. Applicants may substitute additional experience as defined above for the required education at the rate of one year of experience to one year of education, for up to four years of the required education.  Must have a working knowledge of Microsoft Office and a fundamental understanding of data base concepts.  The candidate must have excellent communication and writing skills, be willing to work throughout the state and at times work outside the typical workday, as required.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.
