Main Purpose of Job
The Business Operations Specialist is responsible for performing the operational review of qualified plans being submitted for certification on Maryland Health Connection (the Exchange) and serving as a liaison for the insurance companies that offer plans on Maryland Health Connection. This person will make an initial assessment of a plan's certification status, including verifying that all requirements identified in the Affordable Care Act have been met. The Business Operations Specialist will then present the plan to the Manager of Plan Services for final certification, communicate the status of the plan to the carriers and ensure that the plan is placed on Maryland Health Connection for purchase by the consumer. In addition, the Business Operations Specialist will work with carriers on an ongoing basis to ensure that their needs are met from an operational standpoint. The Business Operations Specialist will also help to evaluate and provide input into Plan Management policies and ongoing operations.
MINIMUM EDUCATION OR GENERAL REQUIREMENTS
Education: Possession of a bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university.
Experience: Three years experience in administrative or professional work.
Notes:
1. Candidates may substitute additional experience in administrative staff or professional work on a year-for-year basis for the required education.
2. Candidates may substitute additional graduate level education at an accredited college or university at the rate of 30 semester credit hours for each year of the required experience.
DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
The ideal candidate should possess a Bechelor's degree from an accredited college or university, 3-5 years of experience in commercial health or dental insurance carrier operations; demonstrated experience implementing provisions and policies of the Affordable Care Act; fluency in using Excel for the purposes of data analyisis; excellent quantitative, analytical and problem solving skills; ability to work cross-functionally; strong written and verbal communication skills ability to analyze and conclude; computer proficiency and ability to learn new technology quickly; time management and organizational skills.
LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS
Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.
