This is a position specific recruitment for the Maryland Department of Veterans Affairs.  Those interested in future vacancies in this classification will need to reapply at that time.

LOCATION OF POSITION

This recruitment will be used by the Maryland Department of Veterans Affairs to fill current and future vacancies for this position. The current vacancy exists at Garrison Forest Veterans Cemetery in Owings Mills, MD.

Main Purpose of Job

To conduct all tasks associated with the interment of veterans and their dependents and the maintenance of cemetery grounds, buildings, and equipment.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

Education: Completion of the sixth grade.

Experience: One year of experience in grounds keeping or buildings and grounds maintenance work.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Experience using light and heavy mechanized equipment such as tractor, skid steer loader, backhoe, air compressors/jackhammers, tampers and other pneumatic equipment and performing maintenance and minor repairs of equipment.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Employees in this classification may be required to apply and store pesticides. Such employees shall use or apply pesticides in compliance with Maryland State pesticide regulations and licensing requirements.

EXAMINATION PROCESS

The examination will consist of a rating of your education, training, and experience as presented on your application and as they relate to the requirements of the position.  You may be required to complete a supplemental questionnaire.  Therefore, it is important that you provide complete and accurate information on your application.

BARGAINING UNIT STATUS

The incumbent in this position is a member of a covered bargaining unit and will be required to pay a bi-weekly service fee to the exclusive representative of the bargaining unit.
