LOCATION OF POSITION

This recruitment will be used by the Maryland Department of Veterans Affairs to fill current and future vacancies for this position. The current vacancy exists on Allentown Road in Prince Georges County. 

Main Purpose of Job

This position initiates and presents claims for compensation, pension, entitlements and other benefits to the United States Department of Veterans Affairs and other agencies on behalf of veterans, their eligible dependents and their survivors.

POSITION DUTIES

Assists and represents veterans, their dependents, and their survivors applying for compensation, pension, and entitlements. 

Advises veterans and their families regarding benefits to which they may be entitled.

Conducts interviews and inquiries to ensure that veterans and their families are not neglected.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalence certificate.

Experience: One year of experience providing services to veterans and their dependents.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

1. Title 38, United States Code, Section 5901-5905 requires that employees in this classification be certified as a veterans’ services counselor by the United States Department of Veterans Affairs.

2. Employees in this classification may be assigned duties that require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.

EXAMINATION PROCESS

The examination will consist of a rating of your education, training, and experience as presented on your application and as they relate to the requirements of the position.  You may be required to complete a supplemental questionnaire.  Therefore, it is important that you provide complete and accurate information on your application.
