Introduction

The Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation (DLLR), Division of Labor and Industry (DLI) is accepting applications from qualified candidates to serve as Assistant to the DLI Board and Regulations Administrator.

The resulting certified eligible list for this recruitment may be used for similar positions in this or other State agencies.

Main Purpose of Job

To provide assistance and support to the Division's Board and Regulations Administrator, and provide allied administrative support to the Office of the Deputy Commissioner, Division of Labor and Industry. This position serves as primary support and assistant to the Division's Board and Regulations Administrator and is the facilitator for the Division's electronic, web and cloud distribution of documents. The incumbant also ensures that critical documents are available and readily accessible upon request, to copy and produce electronic images of a variety of documents for the Commissioner, Attorney's General, staff and advisory board members as requested; and to utilize enhanced technology and social media to advance the Division's information to the public.

POSITION DUTIES

In addition to the duties listed above, this position also:

Processes, organizes and files national consensus codes, federal standards, and best practice documents that may be considered for adoption, or that are active;

Assists and coordinates meetings, establishes dates, agendas, and prepares minutes for five advisory boards, special meetings and other initiatives launched by the Office of the Commissioner;

Organizes, copies and prepares handout packages for board members, Commissioner, Deputy Commissioner, and staff prior to planned meetings or events.

Provides administrative support to the Office of the Commissioner, including regular contact with business owners and labor representatives regarding regular monthly meetings and prepares notes/minutes for distribution;

Prepares correspondence as directed and performs other administrative duties as assigned and directed consistent with the mission of the Division of Labor and Industry.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

Education: Completion of 60 credit hours at an accredited college or university.

Experience: Two years of experience in administrative or professional work.

Notes: 1. Candidates may substitute experience as defined above at the rate of one year experience for 30 credit hours of education for up to 60 credit hours of the required education.

2. Candidates may substitute a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university for the required education and experience.

FOREIGN EDUCATION:  For all education obtained outside the U. S., you are required to provide proof of the equivalent American education as determined by a foreign credential evaluation service. 

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

1.  Executive support experience that includes coordinating meetings, establishing dates, agendas, and preparing minutes; attending monthly board meetings and taking notes/minutes for distribution.

2.  Electronic media experience that includes producing documents for web and cloud distribution.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

All candidates are subject to a background check against files maintained by the Division of Unemployment Insurance (DLLR/DUI) to determine whether any monies are owed to DLLR/DUI as a result of an unemployment insurance overpayment and/or fraud. Any unpaid debt may have an impact on whether or not a candidate is offered employment.

SELECTION PROCESS

Successful candidates will be placed on the eligible list categorized as Best Qualified, Better Qualified or Qualified.  Candidates will remain on the list for a period of one year and will be referred to the hiring unit for interview selection.  Hiring units will select those candidates most closely demonstrating the qualifications for interview.

BARGAINING UNIT STATUS

The incumbent in this position is a member of a covered bargaining unit and will be required to pay a bi-weekly service fee to the exclusive representative of the bargaining unit.

A copy of your proof of eligibility (DD 214) for Veterans’ Credit must be in this office and completely verified before Veterans’ Credit will be approved.  Permanent State employees do not need to submit proof of eligibility for Veterans’ Credit.
