Main Purpose of Job

The Office Clerk I position is the intermediate level of work performing clerical duties which are clear-cut and typically found in office settings, such as filing, photocopying, scanning, posting data, stamping and sorting mail and other material, and directing telephone calls and visitors. The successful candidate must have excellent customer service skills. The incumbent must present a professional image and have good written and oral communication skills. This position will serve as the front desk receptionist and will require knowledge of MS Word, Excel and Access. Duties include typing, filing, emailing, drafting correspondence, processing mail, maintaining logs, I.D. Coordinator and other clerical duties. This position will also assist personnel associates.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

Education: Completion of the eighth grade.

Experience: Six months experience performing clerical duties in an office environment.

Notes:

1. Additional experience performing clerical duties may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required education.

2. Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate may be substituted for the required experience.

3. Six months clerical training with three courses in subjects such as keyboarding, clerical math, word processing, spreadsheets, database, graphics presentation, proofreading, or office etiquette may be substituted for the required experience.

4. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in Administration classifications or in Administrative, Clerical, or Office Services specialty codes in the clerical support field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The desired candidate will have at least three months of experience within a State Agency, Human Resources Department.

BARGAINING UNIT STATUS

The incumbent in this position is a member of a covered bargaining unit and will be required to pay a bi-weekly service fee to the exclusive representative of the bargaining unit.
