This is a position specific recruitment for the Department of Natural Resources, Fisheries Service- Millington, Maryland location.  This recruitment will be used to fill current and future vacancies for this position/function only.  The resulting eligible list will be maintained for one year.  Persons interested in future vacancies within this classification must re-apply.

LOCATION OF POSITION

Main Purpose of Job

The Department of Natural Resources, Fisheries Service in Millington, Maryland, is currently accepting applications for a Natural Resources Biologist V in the Inland Division. This position will serve as the Eastern Regional Fisheries Manager and will be stationed on the Eastern Shore. The position will plan, conduct, develop, coordinate, evaluate, analyze and direct all fishery management in the Eastern Region and will coordinate and assist the Tidal Black Bass Manager with habitat and population management of black bass (largemouth and smallmouth) fisheries within the Eastern Region.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

Education: A Bachelor’s degree in biology, biochemistry, environmental science, aquaculture, natural science, natural resources management, botany, marine biology, marine ecology or physical oceanography, ichthyology, fisheries management, wildlife management, zoology or a natural resources management related field of study

Experience: Six years of experience in performing professional biological work in the field of natural resources management.

Notes: 1. Additional professional experience conducting research and analysis in the fields of biology, biochemistry, environmental science, natural science, natural resources management, botany, marine biology, marine ecology, physical oceanography, ichthyology, fisheries management, wildlife management or zoology may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required education.

2. Candidates may substitute graduate education beyond a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in a natural resources related field of study as described above at the rate of 15 graduate credits for one year of the required experience for up to two years of the required experience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Experience in electro fishing techniques to include boat, backpack and barge mounted designs for applications specific to fish collection and fish population survey techniques in non-tidal as well as tidal-fresh habitats is preferred but not required.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.
