LOCATION OF POSITION
The Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services' Office of Program Services located at Patuxent Institution, Howard County, Maryland.
Main Purpose of Job
The Psychology Associate of the Step Down/Mental Health Transition Unit reports to the Program Director of the Step-Down Unit and is responsible for the coordination and implementation of the following areas of mental health program services for the SDU:
Provide psychology and crisis services to mental health inmates of the Step-Down Program Provide group and individual therapy as directed;
Maintain records in accordance with directives; and
Provide maintenance and support to clients, unit and other SD/MHTU staff.
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Education: Possession of a master's degree in psychology or a related field from an accredited college or university in a program acceptable to the Maryland Board of Examiners of Psychologists.
Experience: None.
LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS
Prior to being appointed the candidate must apply to the Board of Examiners of Psychologists for an exemption from licensure. Failure to obtain an exemption within six months of employment will result in termination, unless the Board grants an extension.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Prior to probationary appointment, candidates must meet all selection standards as set forth in the Code of Maryland Regulations by the Maryland Correctional Training Commission. Candidates who receive a probationary appointment must satisfactorily complete a prescribed training program prior to permanent appointment. Selection standards of the Correctional Training Commission may be obtained from the Maryland Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services.

BARGAINING UNIT STATUS
The incumbent in this position is a member of a covered bargaining unit and will be required to pay a bi-weekly service fee to the exclusive representative of the bargaining unit.
