DHMH- Spring Grove Hospital Center, Catonsville, MD.

Main Purpose of Job

The main duties of this position are to provide licensed forensic psychological services to a potentially violent population of forensic patients at a 24/7 in-patient facility. These services are provided to the mentally ill on both an inpatient and outpatient basis. This psychologist performs a variety of Forensic Psychological evaluations, including competency to stand trial, criminal responsibility and risk evaluations. This psychologist also participates in a number of court hearings and reviews relating to assigned forensic cases. These services are performed under moderate supervision. This position does not supervise other psychologists but may supervise psychology students(externs), who are not state employees, but are here for training purposes. This position also provides forensic psychological services on an inpatient and outpatient basis to adults with court involvement and associated with Spring Grove Hospital Center.

MINIMUM EDUCATION OR GENERAL REQUIREMENTS

Education: Determined by the Maryland State Board of Examiners of Psychologists under the licensing requirements for Psychologists. A copy of your license, license verification or license number and expiration date must be attached to your application.

Experience: Determined by the Maryland State Board of Examiners of Psychologists under the licensing requirements for Psychologists.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

1. Candidates must be licensed as a Psychologist by the Maryland Board of Examiners of Psychologists prior to permanent appointment to a position in State service. Applicants who do not have a Maryland license may also apply pending receipt of the required license. When the license has been obtained, submit a copy of the license to the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene Testing Unit to remove pending status. A copy of your license, license verification or license number and expiration date must be attached to your application.

2. Employees in this classification may be assigned duties that require operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.

BARGAINING UNIT STATUS

The incumbent in this position is a member of a covered bargaining unit and will be required to pay a bi-weekly service fee to the exclusive representative of the bargaining unit.
