Main Purpose of Job

The main purpose of this position is to supervise and serve as a Clinical Pharmacist for the Pharmacy Services Division of the Maryland Medicaid Pharmacy Program. This position assists the staff in providing pharmacy services to recipients through fee-for-service, managed care, long term care or other service delivery models. Clinical pharmacist's responsibility includes reviewing of various pharmacy claims for appropriateness according to the Program and Federal rules, regulations and guidelines. The position provides prior authorization; assists providers, recipients and other stakeholders with clinical information, performs post payment claim review, assists the program in development of clinical criteria of medications, stays abreast of all the current and emerging clinical guidelines, assist in the call center and supervision of a clinical pharmacist.

MINIMUM EDUCATION OR GENERAL REQUIREMENTS

Education: Graduation from an accredited School of Pharmacy with a doctorate in Pharmacy (PharmD).

Experience: One year of clinical pharmacy experience as a Registered Pharmacist.

Notes:

1. Candidates may substitute four additional years of clinical experience as a Registered Pharmacist for the required education.

 2. Experience gained during a formal residency program may be applied to the required experience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Experience with Specialty Drugs, IV Drug Therapy, and development and review of Clinical Criteria is highly preferred.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Candidates for positions in this classification must possess a current license as a Registered Pharmacist from the Maryland State Board of Pharmacy, 4201 Patterson Avenue, Baltimore, Maryland 21215.  License must accompany application.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

1. Employees in this classification are subject to call-in and, therefore, will be required to provide the facility with a phone number at which they can be reached.

2. Employees in this classification are subject to substance abuse testing in accordance with Code of Maryland Regulations 17.04.09, Testing for Illegal Use of Drugs.
