LOCATION OF POSITION

We have two positions within the Facilities Operations & Maintenance Division. One position is located at 301 W. Preston Street and the other at 6 St. Paul Street, which are located in Baltimore, Maryland.

Main Purpose of Job

The main purpose of this position is to provide Locksmith services with specific responsibility for the repair, alteration, installation and keying of locks and maintenance of locks, locking systems, proximity systems, door closure and locking devices on all types of doors and equipment throughout the complex.

POSITION DUTIES

This is the experienced level of work as a locksmith. Employees in this class are responsible for the installation, repair, and maintenance of locks, locking systems, door closure, and locking devices, on all types of doors and equipment at State facilities. This employee will be required to pin lock tumblers to key systems and devices to individual suite, master or grant master series.

Duties include but are not limited to:

-       Setup and maintain Master Key System;

-       Review, approve and complete work requests;

-       Inspect, diagnose and correct problems; and

-       Report conditions of the building and tenant concerns to management.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

Education: Completion of the eighth grade.

Experience: Two years of experience involving installing, maintaining and repairing locks.

Note

Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in Locksmith classifications or Locksmith specialty codes in the Maintenance field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience. 

LIMITATIONS ON SELECTION

This recruitment is limited to applicants willing to accept employment in Baltimore City.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Some positions may require the ability to operate motor vehicles. A motor vehicle operators license may be required before appointment to these positions.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Employees in this class must be available for call at anytime.

EXAMINATION PROCESS

The examination will consist of a rating of your education, training and experience related to the requirements of the position.  Successful candidates will be placed on the employment eligibility list categorized as BEST QUALIFIED, BETTER QUALIFIED, or QUALIFIED.  The list will be valid for at least one year and may be extended.  The list will be used by the hiring agency to select employees.

You must possess the minimum qualifications before you may be selected for a State job – Verification will be completed by the appointing authority.  If you are scheduled to complete an educational or licensing requirement within six months of the examination, you may participate in the examination process.  Permanent State employees may also complete necessary experience requirements within six months of the date of an examination.  Credit is given for relevant part-time, temporary or volunteer experience based on the number of hours worked per week.  You must include on your application the time you spent in such activity.  You must be legally authorized under the United States Immigration Reform and Control Act to be hired in the position for which you apply.

BARGAINING UNIT STATUS

The incumbent in this position is a member of a covered bargaining unit and will be required to pay a bi-weekly service fee to the exclusive representative of the bargaining unit.
