Main Purpose of Job

The main purpose of this position is to provide public relations support to the Department of Communications and Outreach while supporting the mission of the Maryland Health Benefit Exchange (MHBE).  This position will assist in the development of media relations materials and disseminate communications materials to the media, stakeholders and constituents.  It will coordinate the public information process on behalf of the MHBE by tracking all incoming requests and delivering requested information to the public in a timely manner.  This position will provide media and logistics support, when necessary, to staff meetings and marketing/outreach events.  It will also track and analyze media coverage for trends and opportunities; support marketing and communications staff on special projects as needed, and, update the MHBE website(s) on a regular basis.

MINIMUM EDUCATION OR GENERAL REQUIREMENTS

Education: Possession of a bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university with at least 30 semester credit hours in one or more of the following subjects: English, journalism, public relations, writing or other similar and related courses.

Experience: Three years experience in public information, public relations, journalism or other related experience in publicity or promotional work.

BARGAINING UNIT STATUS

The incumbent in this position is a member of a covered bargaining unit and will be required to pay a bi-weekly service fee to the exclusive representative of the bargaining unit.
