POSITION DUTIES

The Office of the Attorney General is seeking applicants for a Paralegal II at the Maryland Department of Transportation (“MDOT”) Headquarters location.  Position responsibilities will include providing support for the General Counsel, Deputy Counsel, and four Assistant Attorneys General within MDOT; maintaining the law library and legal files, performing legal research assistance, and coordinating the responses to Public Information Act Requests received by MDOT.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

The ideal candidate will have graduated from an accredited high school, or a high school equivalency certificate, and a minimum of three years’ experience as a legal assistant or legal secretary performing legal research or drafting and reviewing legal documents on behalf of an attorney.  (Thirty credit hours or a certificate in paralegal studies from an accredited college or university or law school may be substituted for the required experience.)  Additional years of experience as stated above may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required education.  Applicants must have a working knowledge of Microsoft Office or comparable word processing skills, organizational skills, and the ability to work at consistently high volumes.  Applicants also should be able to perform computerized legal research, handle electronic filings for federal courts, maintain calendars, schedule meetings, and independently draft and edit legal documents and correspondence.
