DHMH, Office of Health Homes and Communities, Bureau of Environmental Health, Prevention and Health Promotion Administration, Baltimore, MD

Main Purpose of Job

This position, which serves as the Chief, Center for Healthy Homes and Community Services (CHHCS), will administer, direct, develop, strategically plan, implement, evaluate, assist in controlling budget for, and provide leadership in healthy homes and communities (HHC) programs and services relating to recreation, sanitation, housing, product safety, and comparable activities coordinated with federal, state, and local government agencies and programs.

MINIMUM EDUCATION OR GENERAL REQUIREMENTS

Education: A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university including 30 credits in engineering or the biological, environmental or physical sciences.

Experience: Three years of experience supervising a professional staff or as a project supervisor in the field of the option for which application is made.

 Notes:

1. Additional experience in engineering, public administration or law as related to environmental health may be substituted on year-for- year basis for the required education.

2. Applicants may substitute registration as an Environmental Sanitarian or as a Professional Engineer for the required education.

 3. Applicants may substitute one additional year of experience in engineering, public administration or law as related to environmental health for the 30 specialized academic credits.

SELECTIVE QUALIFICATIONS

Applicants must be a Registered Environmental Sanitarian/Environmental Health Specialist.   License must accompany application.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The ideal candidate would have experience managing projects and evaluating programs.

Position requires flexible hours, including early mornings, evening hours and extensive overnight travel to complete projects as required.

The incumbent is considered on 24 hour 365 day a year call, and is required to maintain the provided cell telephone, or other communication devices, in such a manner as to allow contact during nonworking hours.

 

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Candidates appointed to positions in these classifications may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle.

Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.
