Spring Grove Hospital Center, Catonsville, MD

Main Purpose of Job

The main purpose of this position is to install, repair, test and maintain electrical systems and equipment through out the Hospital Grounds.  Equipment and fixtures include fluorescent, mercury vapor, metal halide and incandescent lights, main electrical distribution and sub panels, elevators, outlets, fans, fire and security systems, communication systems, ice makers, walk-in cold boxes, freezers, dishwashers, air handlers, heating and cooling units, retherm units and other circuit control devices such as motor control centers, automatic transfer switches, disconnect switches, fuses, circuit breakers, ballasts, motors (from 1/10 HP to 100 HP), compressors, relays, starters, generators, transformers and others with voltages ranging from 24 VAC to 4160 VAC.

MINIMUM EDUCATION OR GENERAL REQUIREMENTS

Education: Completion of the eighth grade.

Experience: Four years of experience installing, repairing, testing and maintaining electrical systems, equipment, fixtures and control devices at commercial or residential buildings or other facilities.

Notes:

1. Additional experience as described above may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required education.

2. Graduation from an accredited vocational or technical high school or other vocational or technical school with a concentration in electricity may be substituted for three years of the required experience.

 

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

1. Employees in this classification may be subject to call-in 24-hours a day and may be required to provide the employing agency with a telephone number where they can be reached.

2. Employees in this classification who are designated as Level I or Level II employees shall attend and successfully complete the appropriate asbestos safety and health training as required by Executive Order 01.01.1987.22.

BARGAINING UNIT STATUS

The incumbent in this position is a member of a covered bargaining unit and will be required to pay a bi-weekly service fee to the exclusive representative of the bargaining unit.
