Main Purpose of Job
The registered nurse assesses physical, psychological and social dimensions of the resident/patients in a timely, efficient manner to identify and provide patient medical and nursing needs on admission, per monthly review or per shift. This position provides total patient care including administering oral medications, trach care, suctioning, complex dressings, gastrostomy care, cyctosotomy care, initiates and maintains IV therapy including peripheral and central lines, and implantable ports, provides feedings via nasogastric tubes or gastrostomy tubes. The registered nurse assures quality care providing a designated group of patients including the development, implementation, review and periodic evaluation of the patients interdisciplinary plan of care. This position provides guidance to direct care workers, geriatric nursing assistants, licensed practical nurses, and other registered nurses regarding work-related issues in order to promote teamwork and provide the optimal care to the patient. The contractual employee will be scheduled a minimum of six shifts for each 4 week schedule cycle. Two (2) of those shifts will be on a Saturday or Sunday within the cycle. The contractual employee will be scheduled guaranteed shifts. (Guaranteed shifts are shifts that will cover vacations and medical leave.) The contractual employee will also be scheduled for unguaranteed shifts. (Unguaranteed shifts are shifts that the employee is scheduled to work above the minimum staffing level.) If there is no need for the employee to work the shift, the employee will be mandated to stay home without pay. The employee will be notified up to one hour prior to the start of the scheduled shift. The contractual employee will be required to work on summer holiday (Memorial Day, Independence Day, or Labor Day) and one winter holiday (Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day, or New Years Day). Holidays will be in a rotating schedule.
MINIMUM EDUCATION OR GENERAL REQUIREMENTS
Education: Determined by the Maryland State Board of Nursing under the licensing requirements for Registered Nurses.
Experience: None.
DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
More than two (2) years experience as a registered nurse in an inpatient acute or subacute setting is strongly preferred.
LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS
1. Candidates for positions in this classification must possess a current license as a Registered Nurse from the Maryland State Board of Nursing, 4140 Patterson Avenue, Baltimore, Maryland 21215.
2. Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of an automobile. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.
3. Employees in this classification may be required to successfully complete cardiopulmonary resuscitation training and maintain current certification
