Introduction

The Maryland Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services (DPSCS)/Information Technology & Communications Division (ITCD) is currently recruiting for a Contractual Computer Information Service Specialist, II Security Account Management.

Maryland State Police (MSP) Headquarters 1201 Reisterstown Road, Building F, Pikesville, Maryland  21282

Main Purpose of Job

The main purpose of this position (Computer Information Service Specialist II, Security Administrator) is to develop and enforce all network security policies related to the department for over 250 agencies, 17,000 criminal justice employees' in addition to 402 remote network connections throughout the State. This includes, but not limited to account administration, technical support, customer services, training, and maintaining confidential information. This is an essential position as defined in the 'Secretary's Directive, 6-94', that may require on call availability.

POSITION DUTIES

Processes Network user accounts using Active Directory & CJIS account requests via Security Service Management System (SSMS) and systems including but not limited to TopSecret (TSO), MILES, OBSCIS I, OBSCIS II, FMIS, OCMS, RSA ClearTrust, Remedy, NetOp and the DPSCS UNIX environment. Maintain login identification records for network and CJIS accounts necessary to ensure data/system integrity; add new users; modifies/updates users; removes users as appropriate. Maintains confidential records of employee files and user applications for logon ID's. Consults with users to clarify objectives pertaining to network security and services. Provide users with regular status reports. Determines if the business needs of users are being met and make necessary adjustments in network security services.

Provide high level technical guidance and trouble shooting for network, security operation, and projects.  

Develops an understanding of departmental network security infrastructure. Researches new processes, products, technologies and standards with an eye towards improving network security services and user support. Attends seminars and other continuing education opportunities.

Performs other duties and tasks as may be assigned. 

MINIMUM EDUCATION OR GENERAL REQUIREMENTS

Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.

Experience: One year of experience evaluating, implementing and maintaining personal computer hardware and software.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Six (6) months work experience configuring workstations, setting up network/CJIS user accounts, installing system-wide software and Active Directory 2003/2008.

SELECTION PROCESS

The examination may consist of a rating of your education, training, experience related to the requirements of the job. It is important that you provide complete and accurate information on your application. Successful candidates will be placed on the employment eligibility list categorizes as BEST QUALIFIED, BETTER QUALIFIED, or QUALIFIED. The list will be valid for at least one year and may be extended. The list will be use by the hiring agency to select employees.
