Main Purpose of Job

This is a professional position responsible for planning, organizing, coordinating, integrating, and maintaining network software, operating systems, communication systems, and hardware for instructional technology activities and for providing leadership and technical services for the information technology area inclusive of providing network administration, hardware/software training and support, and resource allocation.

POSITION DUTIES

Administers the installation, configuration and continued maintenance of Juvenile Services Education Program (JSE) network equipment including servers, storage devices, routers, hubs, switches, and printers; troubleshoots and resolves network connectivity and network related hardware/software problems; reviews new hardware and software specifications and recommends products for procurement; installs, configures, and optimizes network communication hardware and client software; creates users, assigns privileges, and provides ongoing user support; responds to connectivity related help desk requests; runs backup and recovery operations; provides support and assistance to staff; completes archiving of network data and completes appropriate documentation; collaborates with teachers and coordinators to assess and evaluate educational software to project future needs.

MINIMUM EDUCATION OR GENERAL REQUIREMENTS

Education: A Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in Computer Information Technology, Computer Science, Management Information Systems, or other information technology-related field to include coursework in local or wide area  computer networks from an accredited college or university.  Microsoft MSCE &/or CCNA certification preferred.

Experience: One year of experience planning, integrating, installing and maintaining computer software and/or network/hardware devices; evaluating, implementing and maintaining network computer software and hardware systems is preferred; experience w/ CISCO a plus.  

Notes:  

1. Completion of high school or high school equivalency certificate & completion of a certification program in Network Administration, such as Certified Novell Administrator (CNA), Microsft Certified Product Specialist NT 4.0 Administrator or equivalent certification program may substitute for the required education.     

2. Thirty credit hours from an accredited college or university in Computer Information Technology, Computer Science, Management Information Systems, or other information technology related field to include coursework in systems analysis and applications programming using third generation or other generally accepted computer programming languages may be substituted for the required experience.   3. An additional year of experience planning, integrating installing and maintaining devices; or evaluating, implementing and maintaining computer software and hardware may be substituted for the required education.    

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge of information system architecture, system security practices and industry standards; knowledge of Exchange Server, TCP/IP, Internet Information Server, and Microsoft Server Operating systems; knowledge of an Ethernet network, Windows servers; knowledge of the following software is also preferable: XP Workstation, Microsoft Office Professional and .Net Applications: skill troubleshooting desktop computer systems, servers, peripheral devices, operating systems and applications software; skill establishing concrete resolutions to system problems; skill in user needs analysis, product integration, and managing the life cycle of technology products; ability to support and maintain multi-server LAN and WAN technologies; ability to interact and support the technology needs of users; ability to ensure network connectivity and functionality during core business hours; ability to write clear and concise instructions and system documentation; ability to communicate effectively and to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a variety of customers to include network users, vendor  representatives, and engineers.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Proof of eligibility to work in compliance with the Immigration Reform and Control Act and travel throughout the state are required.  The selected applicant must consent to a criminal background investigation as a required security procedure for all employees who have access to data systems.  Any misrepresentation of academic or experience requirements for this position may result in non-selection or termination of employment.
