Main Purpose of Job

The main purpose of this position is to provide public relations support to the Director of Communications in supporting the mission of the Maryland Health Benefit Exchange (MHBE).  Job duties include:  Serving as the media relations liaison, responding to medial inquiries/requests as appropriate; Coordinating work with vendors and public relations ageny engaged by the MHBE to assist in projects; Reviewing and approving marketing and communications materials submitted by plan issuers; Managing the public information act process on behalf of the MHBE; and, Assisting in the community outreach, speaking engagements and development of communications strategies.  This position supervises other staff.

MINIMUM EDUCATION OR GENERAL REQUIREMENTS

Requires a bachelors degree in English, Communications, Marketing, Business Administration or related degree and six years of health or human services administrative or professional experience including two years at a supervisory or management level.  A master’s degree will substitute for one year of general experience.  Additional experience will substitute year-for-year for the college degree.

Applicant must have experience executing public relations campaigns in the health care field, insurance and consumer categories; media relations experience including pitching stories, coordinating media interviews, writing bylines articles, and have exceptional writing skills.
