Main Purpose of Job

The Regulatory and Compliance Engineer/Architect Senior is the lead or advanced level of engineering or architectural work in the analysis and evaluation of construction, operational or industrial projects and processes in pollution control, waste remediation, and environmental protection or public health and safety to ensure regulatory compliance with engineering or architectural standards, practices, principles and methods.  Employees in this classification serve as a lead engineer/architect responsible for training, and assigning, reviewing and approving the work of lower-level Regulatory and Compliance Engineer/Architects or serve as the State key technical and primary subject matter expert in a recognized specialized area within pollution control, waste remediation, resource conservation, environmental protection, or public health and safety.

MINIMUM EDUCATION OR GENERAL REQUIREMENTS

Education: Bachelor's degree in engineering or architecture from an accredited college or university.

Experience: Three years of engineering or architectural experience in pollution control, waste remediation, resource conservation, environmental protection, or public health and safety to ensure regulatory or quality compliance with engineering/architectural standards, practices, principles and methods.

Notes:

1. A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with at least 20 credits in engineering and two years performing engineering architectural work in pollution control, waste remediation, resource conservation, environmental protection, public health and safety or related areas may be substituted for the engineering degree.

2. A Master’s degree in engineering or architecture from an accredited college or university may be substituted for up to one year of the required experience.

3. Professional Engineer or Professional Architect registration in the State of Maryland or in a state with comparable requirements may be substituted for the educational requirement and one year of experience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

PREFERRED QUALIFICATION:  It is preferred that the selected candidate possess a degree in engineering.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Employees in this classification may be subject to call-in twenty-four hours a day, and, therefore, may be required to provide the employing agency with a telephone number where they can be reached or carry an electronic pager.

SELECTION PROCESS

Only candidates who meet the minimum qualifications will be considered.  It is imperative that you give complete information on your application.  Please note that you will be required by the appointing agency to provide proof upon hire for all certifications, licenses, education and work experiences.  For education obtained outside the U.S., you will be required to provide proof of the equivalent American education as determined by a foreign credential evaluation service. Candidates will be placed on the employment list categorized as BEST QUALIFIED and remain eligible for consideration for at least one year from the date of the examination.  This list will be used by the hiring agency to select employees.  You must possess the minimum qualifications before you may be selected for a State position. Verification will be completed by the Appointing Authority.  If you are scheduled to complete an education or licensing requirement within six months of the examination, you may participate in the examination process.  Permanent State employees may also complete necessary experience based on the number of hours worked per week. You must include on your application the time in such activity. The Maryland Department of the Environment does not sponsor individuals in the application of the H-1B Visa.  All applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States under the Immigration and Reform Control Act. You must be legally authorized and possess any necessary documents under the United States Immigration Reform and Control Act to be hired in the position for which you apply.
